My Easter Bunny
As a Christian, Easter is about so much more than bunnies and chicks and eggs and candy, so I find it humorous that this year I actually had my very own Easter bunny. And sad at the same time. Kevin and I had our Easter meal over with friends, a very enjoyable time. Afterward, I was watching them play volleyball in the front yard when one of their two outdoor cats (they have two 100% outdoor cats, one 100% outdoor dog, and one indoor dog) ventured into the driveway. Dangling from Dakota's mouth, a poor, hapless baby bunny. Being who I am, I followed the feline into the garage. She darted under the van. Bet she didn't expect anyone would be willing to crawl completely under the van to retrieve her prize. Mind you, I am not fond of crawling on my face on garage floors, but I had a goal in mind. Dakota had set down her prize, so I reached out and snatched this little fellow from her. Other than a wet neck from the carry, I could not see any external injuries, but he wasn't moving one of his front legs very well. I sat and held him for quite a while, hoping the shock of the capture would wear off. A while later, I meandered down the driveway with him to where he presumably lives, praying for the critter with each step. My hope was that he would hop off once he realized he had green grass beneath his paws. Unfortunately, he did not. In fact, when he tried to hop, he lurched forward and fell over on his side. This humane rescue and release wasn't proceeding the way I had envisioned. Have I said this before? Good thing my husband loves me. Our friend, the little Easter bunny I have for some odd reason affectionally been calling Spud, rode back to our place on my lap. I cleaned out Artemas' cage one more time (good thing this new ward is such a tiny guy) and made him a home, wondering if it was a final place to say goodbye to this world. This morning, while hasn't eaten or even budged, he has pooped and peed. At least he's done that. He seems big enough to eat on his own. I put water droplets on his face and front feet hoping that'll encourage him to drink. He's sitting in a bed of food, so I know that's available to him. Somehow I don't think Spud is long for this world, but I do what I can for the critters--great and small--that enter my life.
BTW, I don't know why I didn't think to grab the macro lens I am still borrowing from my friend. Maybe later. . .

I really wanted to go out to the park today after work to get some outdoor strobist portraits of Zoey but we were a bit late getting to the park. By the time we got there I had missed the nice sunset and evening light, it got a bit chilly, and there were a lot of bugs flying around, so we opted to just take a quick walk and head home. I still had the strobist urge so I set up shop with Zoey in the bedroom using 1 flash and an umbrella as well as a large piece of foam board for the background (propped up against the pillows). Zoey was having a blast hanging out on the bed and she was having a lot of fun making daddy's job hard... after I'd sit her up she'd wait til I backed up and grabbed the camera and then she'd lunge forward or fall back or to the side and continue to roll around, it was a game to her and she was having fun b/c every time I'd have an over dramatic reaction which would get her giggling and hiding her face, it was too cute. This was towards the end of our session when she decided she wanted to turn and look to the side, so I went to the side of the bed and decided to use the room as the backdrop.
